Connecting the Waves: How Bibby Marine and Wireless Logic Are Transforming Life at Sea

Bibby

When your workplace floats hundreds of miles offshore, connection takes on a whole new meaning. For Bibby Marine, a company with a proud maritime heritage stretching back to 1840, keeping its crews connected, informed, and supported is as vital as the ships themselves. Now, with the help of Blue Wireless, part of the Wireless Logic Group, that connection is about to get faster, smarter, and more reliable than ever.

A new era of connectivity for the Wavemaster fleet

Wireless Logic, a leading global IoT provider, has partnered with Bibby Marine in a five-year collaboration to completely upgrade the connectivity and onboard ICT infrastructure across the company’s Wavemaster fleet, a series of Customer Service Operation Vessels (CSoVs) that support offshore wind farms, oil, and gas installations.

Until recently, these vessels relied on traditional geo-stationary satellites orbiting 36,000 kilometres above Earth,a proven but limited technology that often led to high latency and patchy coverage. After a successful pilot, Bibby Marine is charting a new course with Starlink’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network, supported by 4G/5G connectivity and long-range maritime antennas.

The result? Seamless, high-speed internet access for both crew and passengers, whether the vessel is docked near shore or navigating remote offshore routes.

Behind the scenes: technology built for the sea

As part of the Wireless Logic group, Blue Wireless will integrate and manage the onboard ICT network, from routers and switches to managed Wi-Fi, creating a secure digital ecosystem designed specifically for the challenges of maritime operations. Wireless Logic will handle the global connectivity backbone, ensuring uninterrupted service even in the most isolated parts of the ocean.

Over the next five years, the company will maintain and manage this new infrastructure, combining LEO satellite and 4/5G connections into a single, secure, and efficient communications platform.

More than connectivity, it’s about people

For Bibby Marine, this upgrade is about more than just faster internet speeds. It’s about improving daily life at sea. Reliable, high-quality connectivity supports crew wellbeing, enhances operational efficiency, and enables smarter, data-driven management of vessels and energy operations.

We are proud to be selected by a renowned entity like Bibby Marine as their new supplier. Wireless Logic offers comprehensive service based on the ‘Managed LEO+4/5G’ proposition, combining both channels into a single virtual secure connection for reliable performance at the lowest possible cost. Special maritime antennas will receive cellular signals far offshore, up to 50 km. This ensures the continuity of daily business and internet availability for everyone onboard. We look forward to our strategic collaboration, including developing a fully electrically powered ship.

Sailing toward a smarter, greener future

The partnership marks the start of an exciting new chapter for both companies. Alongside improving digital infrastructure, Bibby Marine and Wireless Logic are already exploring future projects, including innovations that will support the development of fully electric vessels.

From the docks of Liverpool to the farthest reaches of the North Sea, Bibby Marine’s fleet is staying connected, proving that even on the open ocean, technology and tradition can sail hand in hand.

At Bibby Marine, we are always looking for ways to make life better for our customers and crew onboard all of our vessels. Reliable, high-quality internet plays a crucial role in that and we are proud to partner with Wireless Logic, which is equipped with the right technology, knowledge and sector-specific experience to help us enhance our service delivery and experience onboard.
