When your workplace floats hundreds of miles offshore, connection takes on a whole new meaning. For Bibby Marine, a company with a proud maritime heritage stretching back to 1840, keeping its crews connected, informed, and supported is as vital as the ships themselves. Now, with the help of Blue Wireless, part of the Wireless Logic Group, that connection is about to get faster, smarter, and more reliable than ever.
A new era of connectivity for the Wavemaster fleet
Wireless Logic, a leading global IoT provider, has partnered with Bibby Marine in a five-year collaboration to completely upgrade the connectivity and onboard ICT infrastructure across the company’s Wavemaster fleet, a series of Customer Service Operation Vessels (CSoVs) that support offshore wind farms, oil, and gas installations.
Until recently, these vessels relied on traditional geo-stationary satellites orbiting 36,000 kilometres above Earth,a proven but limited technology that often led to high latency and patchy coverage. After a successful pilot, Bibby Marine is charting a new course with Starlink’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network, supported by 4G/5G connectivity and long-range maritime antennas.
The result? Seamless, high-speed internet access for both crew and passengers, whether the vessel is docked near shore or navigating remote offshore routes.
Behind the scenes: technology built for the sea
As part of the Wireless Logic group, Blue Wireless will integrate and manage the onboard ICT network, from routers and switches to managed Wi-Fi, creating a secure digital ecosystem designed specifically for the challenges of maritime operations. Wireless Logic will handle the global connectivity backbone, ensuring uninterrupted service even in the most isolated parts of the ocean.
Over the next five years, the company will maintain and manage this new infrastructure, combining LEO satellite and 4/5G connections into a single, secure, and efficient communications platform.
More than connectivity, it’s about people
For Bibby Marine, this upgrade is about more than just faster internet speeds. It’s about improving daily life at sea. Reliable, high-quality connectivity supports crew wellbeing, enhances operational efficiency, and enables smarter, data-driven management of vessels and energy operations.
